Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC) recorded combined crude and condensate output of 1.5 million barrels per day on June 21, 2026. That is the highest level the country has reached since 2013. The NOC confirmed that crude output was 1.43 million barrels that day, with condensate adding a further 49,163 barrels per day.
The recovery has been building all year. Libya set a record for oil and gas production in February 2026, with total output for the month of about 36 million barrels. Exports that month came to over 26 million barrels, and total revenue was $1.81 billion.
The growth is part of a wider comeback. Production averaged about 1.3 million barrels per day in 2025, up from 1.09 million in 2024, and real GDP rebounded 12.4 percent. The NOC chairman, Masoud Suleiman, wants to reach 1.5 million barrels per day before the end of 2026.
The milestone also matters beyond Libya. Libya holds Africa’s largest proven oil reserves, and it was producing about 1.7 million barrels per day before 2011. It exports about 1 million barrels per day, with Europe as its primary market. One analyst described it as a valuable supplier of light-sweet crude during Gulf disruptions. Libya has set a target of 2 million barrels per day by 2030.
Date: June 21, 2026 (milestone). Earlier record monthly output reported March 11, 2026.
