The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) had commended the Nigerian Government for developing policies and curriculum on early childhood education in the country.
Mr Nasir Idris, National President of the union made this commendation via an official statement through the Press and Public Relations office on Wednesday in Abuja, the country’s capital.
Mr Idris highlighted the importance of providing a child with an early foundation and formation.
“The school education of a child must be focused on social, mental, physical aspects and overall development. If all these are well taken care of, it will contribute immensely to the development of the young minds as they step into adulthood,’’ he said.
The union president also admonished the government to fully equip and train the early childhood educators for better and functional development of the child.
”The capacity of teachers to deliver cannot be achieved using a contingency approach.”
“The trained, competent and committed personnel in the education sector most, especially as it affects the early child development component must be provided,” he added.
