Ghana, China Trade Hit $7.3 Billion

Trade between Ghana and China has hit an all-time high of US$7.3 billion. This is according to the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Shi Ting Wang who made this known at last Thursday at the launch of new Changan CS95 and CS55T by Stallion Motors distributors of Hyundai, Audi and Skoda vehicles in Ghana.

The ambassador attributed the increase in trade to the strong demand for Chinese products by Ghanaians and measures put in place by both countries to leverage the long-standing relations between them.

He stated that Ghana’s growing economy has and is prompting a rise in the purchase of automobiles.

“I think Changan International Corporation is wise to seize the opportunity and the export of high-tech heavy equipment like automobiles can remarkably optimize the trade structure between China and Ghana,” he said.

Prior to now, China’s export to Ghana were light industrial products such as textiles and electrical home appliances but this has changed significantly as there is an increase in the export of heavy equipment such as automobiles which reflects a boost in the bilateral trades of both countries.

Mr Wang revealed that Made in Ghana products are showcased at the China International Import Expo (CIIE) and China Import and Export Fair (Canton Fair) which is held yearly in China providing a larger market Ghanaian merchants.

The Country Director for Stallion Motors Ghana Limited, Mahesh Mahtani, said the launch of the new models added to the range and showed the company’s commitment towards bringing quality and affordable range of vehicles to Ghanaian customers.
