World Food Programme to Double Emergency Food Aid in Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe, one of Africa’s most historic country is currently facing one of the world’s most severe food crisis. According to the UN’s World Food Programme(WFP), Zimbabwe is facing its worst food crisis in decades.

Currently, half of the country’s population are facing acute starvation. This crisis is as a result of “climate disaster” and “economic meltdown” as described by WFP’s spokesperson Bettina Luescher.

In a bid to remedy the crisis, the WFP has finalized plans to double food aids to the country. It will be providing assistance for 4.1 million people in January and has called for funding from donors to reach out to more people suffering from this crisis. With the growing number of victims, contributions and donations are highly required.

“We are deep into a vicious cycle of sky-rocketing malnutrition that’s hitting women and children hardest and will be tough to breaks. With poor rain forecast yet again in the run-up to the main harvest in April, the scale of hunger in the country isn’t going to get risers before it gets better,” said WFP Executive Director, David Beasley.
